It has become a hot topic, and has divided opinions, but should you go for a film photographer for your wedding, or a digital one. Or perhaps you should go for one that can do both..? Like in other aspects of your wedding planning, it can depend on a few factors. I am very much a film wedding photographer, my website tells you that, but I try not to lean on the ‘film’ aspect too much. I prefer to say that I am a wedding photographer, I just happen to use film.
It was late November 2023; and it would be the first of two trips to Lapland over the following couple of months. This first trip was going to be cold enough, with the start of the winter snow already falling, and the average temperature around about -18°c.
What is the first thing you see when you look at an image taken on film? Hopefully, it’s the amazing subject, or the vibrant colour, or the beautiful contrast. Or maybe it is the characteristics of the film stock.
Quite likely though, it will be the grain.
So what?!
That’s the question I often get. Not usually from potential clients, but from other photographers, and people learning about my business for the first time.
All or nothing! That’s me. My photography journey started around 9 years ago when I fell down the rabbit hole of ‘how to be a better photographer’, prior to that I had no interest at all, nothing. I had never owned a stand alone camera, I just used the one on my phone if I needed to, or let everyone else take the photos. I just had no passion for it.
What led me to this point? Why am I writing a blog on my very own website, trying to get people to engage with what I am doing? Why am I trying to get people to book me to take pictures of them?
Because I love it, and I want to do more of it.
